USA Today has an article titled: Could you live like Jesus for a year? The Rev. Ed Dobson decided to devote a year to living like Jesus after reading “The Year of Living Biblically,” A.J. Jacobs’ best-selling account of obeying Bible commands as literally as possible. If a non-religious Jew could do it, Dobson decided, so could a practicing Christian. His conclusion? Being Jesus is tough.
What I found interesting was this:
The retired megachurch pastor and one-time architect of the religious right has spent the last year trying to eat, pray, talk and even vote as Jesus would.
So who did he vote for?
Jesus’ troubling teachings influenced him to vote for Barack Obama — his first vote for a Democrat for president. Though disagreeing with Obama on abortion, he said, “I felt, as an individual, he was closer to the spirit of Jesus’ teachings than anyone else. (Obama) was a community organizer, so he was into the poor, the marginalized, the oppressed, which Jesus is very much into.”
Finally, in Dobsons word:
If you get serious about the Bible, it will really mess you up.
Very interesting article, very interesting path on behalf of Dobson and most interesting the vote. You had Bible Spice preaching up a storm, you had the “Maverick” also trying to stand by the Religious Right and here is the conclusion that Dobson came to, “Jesus was very much into the poor, the marginalized, and the oppressed.” Has he perhaps managed to point out the PHARISEES of our time?
