{January 20, 2009}   Selfless vs. Selfish

Although many might argue that I am leaning towards Gene Robinson because of his sexual orientation, no, that isn’t the reason. I want that stated clearly, this also isn’t about Rick Warren backing Proposition 8.

I am coming from a stand point of the inauguaration being for a Nation, not a nation of just Christians, but a NATION filled with everyone. From people that are none believers, to free thinkers, to Deists, to those that have a grasp on the bible with their KKK beliefs. A nation that was made up of immigrants, that brought their own beliefs, not just Anglo Christians.

Rick Warren should have made those that follow him and his beliefs proud. He was very ‘inclusive’ to them, but keep in mind not everyone in our Nation has that same belief. His prayer was great, for a Theocratic nation, not a Democracy. Big difference. I also feel that he lacked truth. It seems like he lacks passion. His prayer doesn’t sound sincere.

{January 20, 2009}   Worn Out Dogmas

He rejected as “false the choice between our safety and our ideals”, in a clear criticism of the Bush administration’s policies in pursuing the war on terror.

“On this day,” he said, “we come to proclaim an end to the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn out dogmas, that for far too long have strangled our politics.

“We remain a young nation, but in the words of Scripture, the time has come to set aside childish things. The time has come to reaffirm our enduring spirit; to choose our better history; to carry forward that precious gift, that noble idea, passed on from generation to generation: the God-given promise that all are equal, all are free, and all deserve a chance to pursue their full measure of happiness. “

“We have chosen hope over fear.” It seems like many worn out dogmas use fear as a way of leading people. The fear of hell, the fear of wrath of a vengeful God. The fear of sticking to a set of rules found in the bible and disregard is given to those that do not have the same beliefs.

I have hope, hope that this administration will have a balanced view. One that will take into consideration everyone.

Romans 13:1-6 1Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. 3For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you. 4For he is God’s servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God’s servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. 5Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience. 6This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants, who give their full time to governing.
