{March 3, 2009}   The Saga Continues

I had posted about a christian student that was suing his college. Well, the saga continues:

Los Angeles City College had half a dozen middle-aged people milling around the campus quad. “God Hates Gays,” their signs read. Nice way to represent Jesus, right? I mean when Jesus was here on earth, he preached “HATRED” and walked around with signs to preach the word.

The suit, filed Feb. 12, has inspired a wave of blog and media commentary. Lopez’s lawyer from the Alliance Defense Fund, co-founded by James Dobson of Focus on the Family, has appeared on the popular Fox News show “The O’Reilly Factor.”

A dozen nasty e-mails winged their way to a Pulitzer Prize-winning New York biographer, who had the singular misfortune of sharing a name and occupation with Lopez’s instructor.

“Some of them threatened my life,” said the New York-based John Matteson, an associate professor of English at John Jay College of Criminal Justice.

Leave it to the Christians to react in that way. They profess to follow Jesus, but their actions are from Christ like. Threatening and preaching hate…

{February 20, 2009}   The Call: To Fast

A 40-day fast.

I want to know who are the tens of thousands of people that follow this man? Seriously, look at his body language, something is mentally wrong with this man. Lou Engle.

Fasting means starvation which equals HALLUCINATIONS…not God talking to you.

{February 19, 2009}   Suicide committed in Mega-Church

usa-la-crystal-cathedral-exterior-by-darrell-godliman76 year old church volunteer was explaining the church’s suicide hotline with six people, including a tourist group from Canada. “We were talking actually about the suicide prevention hotline that we have here at our church and telling them it’s open 24 hours, seven days a week, and then just then, I heard this pop”.

Meanwhile, an 84 year old church volunteer welcomes this man that hands her a note and his driver’s license. The note stated his pick-up was in the parking lot. He walked up to a gold cross and knelt as if to pray and shot himself. What did the pastor have to say?

“He did not give any sign that he was going to do that. He just came, like any other tourist, to pray,” said pastor Juan Carlos Ortiz. “I think God will have mercy on him, because he must have been very desperate to do what he did.”

The Orange County coroner’s office identified the man as Steve Smick, 48.

“I think God will have mercy on him”? Seriously? To make a statement like that for his family to read is just callous, but what else do you expect from some “Christians”. I just can’t help but wonder, going to the house of God, wouldn’t something happen from God Himself to let others know that His house was going to be used for that?

The Crystal Cathedral had been a witness to another tragedy:

Are these the sign of the times?

steve-wuThe pastor of Willow Creek Chicago — the city campus of the evangelical mega-church Willow Creek Community Church — has resigned and admitted to “sexual impurity,” a church spokesman said. The pastor, Rev. Steve Wu, could not be reached, and the church would not specify what took place just a statement Tuesday by church officials admitting to “sexual impurity”

Wu, 43, began pastoring Willow Chicago in 2006. It was the fifth campus of Willow Creek Community Church – the fourth largest mega-church in the country with 22,500 attendees, according to Outreach magazine’s 2008 list. The mega-church, founded by the Rev Bill Hybels, currently has six locations throughout Illinois.

The church also stated that he may go through a “restoration process”. I wonder if this will be like the one Ted Haggard went through, which we all know, has made him realize that his sexuality is a “complicated” one.

I wrote about this before, there is nothing good about a church that is said to be a “mega-church”. What those types of church come down to is BUSINESS and MONEY. In due time, the true colors come out and they fall hard.

It all started with the atheists starting a campaign on the side of the buses with the message:

The Trinitarian Bible Society has paid $50,000 to display posters on 125 of London’s red double-decker buses that quote Psalm 53: “The fool hath said in his heart, there is no God.” The Christian Party, a right-wing political party whose policies mostly focus on moral issues, is joining the advert battle by displaying posters on at least 50 buses, though they are not working directly with Larlham’s group. “There definitely is a God,” their message reads. “So join the Christian Party and enjoy your life.”

Meanwhile, the Russian Orthodox Church is going to place the message “There is God. Don’t Worry. Enjoy your life!” on at least 25 buses from March. “We’re living in a difficult time, when crisis is being extensively promoted, and people need some life-asserting message,” he told London’s Daily Telegraph.

Since its January 6 launch, the London scheme has been credited with inspiring atheist bus campaigns in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Germany and Italy, where next month posters in Genoa will read: “The bad news is that God does not exist. The good news is that we do not need him.”

British advertising authority responsible for screening ads, received more than 150 complaints about the atheist campaign during January, and at least one bus driver walked off the job. “This is a public attack on people’s faiths,” Ron Heather, a 62-year old bus driver and evangelical Christian said. “I have a lot of passengers who are over 90 or are seriously ill, and to tell them there is no God seems a bit insensitive, when God is probably all they have left in the world.”

The atheist bus organizers say that they are regrouping and will launch another campaign in April, knowing that Christian groups are likely to respond in turn.

There you have it, a tennis match, with the bus as the tennis ball.

It is great that it sparks conversation. I especially liked the way the atheists used the word: PROBABLY, to me this is more respectful on their behalf and it made the advertisement seem more none confrontational and more along the lines of just stating: CHILL OUT.

{January 17, 2009}   A wanna be pastor

Authorities received a tip on animal cruelty. They showed up to the house and found three dead dogs, guns, ammunition and drug paraphernalia. His birth name is Earl Simmons, but he is famously known by his stage name: DMX. A very successful rapper.

If you run a search on him you will find the following: In spring of 2001 DMX served 10 days in a New York jail for driving without a license. In 2005 he was sentenced to 70 days in jail for violating conditions of a plea agreement from a 2004 incident at Kennedy Airport… He was arrested twice in one week in May 2008, both in Phoenix: first for speeding, and then on an indictment for felony drug possession and misdemeanor acts of animal cruelty, reportedly involving mistreatment of pit bulls. In 2003 he had stated that he was going to retire to become a pastor and now he is stating the same thing, dressed in pink.

Why is it that those that are in jail suddenly find God? Would it be because they have all the time in the world with nothing to do? Is it because they need to have faith and hope in something?

I just wonder how much credibility this man can have as a pastor. The bible does state that if you repent you shall be forgiven, but how much of that repentance is sincere, is the question. In the interview DMX lied and stated his rap lyrics never talked about killing a person, but the interviewer did his homework and called him out on it. Lies, we know who the father of liars is (John 8:44) according to the bible, you would think a wanna be pastor would know that to.

Oh, in regards to the pink… your in jail, it isn’t Burger King, CAN’T HAVE IT YOUR WAY!

{January 16, 2009}   A World Spiritually Awakened

Does anyone see what is wrong with this picture? Where is the balance? Asking for the Christians to take over the world, isn’t that the same thought process that the muslims have? Does the bible agree with religious fanatiscm?

There is a term that is always used in a derragatory manner: fundamentalist. What does that mean? According to Wikipedia, a religious fundamentalist is a view that insists on strict observation of religious laws, this isn’t something that sounds balanced. Another word is religious zealot, the term speaks for itself. According to the bible itself, Jesus was not a fanatic, did not make knowing His Father, or living for His Father something difficult. Why is it that pastors, or religious leaders of modern times do not have a balanced view?403827544_db3b9428a2

People that have leadership roles have to be educated. Has Warren not learned the evils of Hitler? Hitler believed that he was doing Gods will. He was throwing into prison camps those that did not measure to the standard that Hitler believed in. Has Warren not noticed the evils of the taliban? Under their rulership, females were to be clothed from head to toe. They were not allowed an education. They were beaten and they did not have a voice. Balance. Here in the United States, we enjoy many freedoms. Freedoms that allows us to have a choice. Under a Theocracy, we wouldn’t have a choice. We wouldn’t live a balanced life. Religious fundamentalism is the most dangerous evil we have today.

Some people need religion. They need the hope and the faith that religion offers them. I respect that. Others don’t. It seems like Christians forget that and just want to cram it down others throat. For Rick Warren to use the Hitler youth as an example for a Christian movement is something scary and irresponsible on his behalf.

Adolf Hitler: Don’t Just Talk About Fulfilling God’s Will

The folkish-minded man, in particular, has the sacred duty, each in his own denomination, of making people stop just talking superficially of God’s will, and actually fulfill God’s will, and not let God’s word be desecrated. For God’s will gave men their form, their essence and their abilities. Anyone who destroys His work is declaring war on the Lord’s creation, the divine will.

– Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf Vol. 2 Chapter 10

“The most mean spirited e-mail were from Christians”. I have had that experience all my life. My sister said I am anti-religious because of that experience, which I disagree. Tell a Christian that, and they of course do not see it that way. So what do Christians have to say about this priest, pastor or bishop making this statement, let’s see:

I was so sad when this man said that being gay is a gift from god i changed the channel. He not have read the bible, or maybe he’s talking about its a gift from Satan. The city of Sodom was destroyed because of the homosexuality by Jesus father,GOD.–Oprah website

and last but not least, the best one:

Unless this is addressed in some way by Oprah herself, I PROMISE that I will never again be watching the Oprah show, just like I will never again be reading Newsweek because of its article which tried to prove that God’s Word approves of homosexuality and that great men of the Bible like Paul and David were gay! Christians need to start standing up for the truth and the Word of God in this country or we won’t have a country that resembles anything that our forefathers (who were all devout Christians by the way) created

I never thought I would say this, but why don’t Christians just take the O’Reilly on this one?

dobsonx1USA Today has an article titled: Could you live like Jesus for a year? The Rev. Ed Dobson decided to devote a year to living like Jesus after reading “The Year of Living Biblically,” A.J. Jacobs’ best-selling account of obeying Bible commands as literally as possible. If a non-religious Jew could do it, Dobson decided, so could a practicing Christian. His conclusion? Being Jesus is tough.

What I found interesting was this:

The retired megachurch pastor and one-time architect of the religious right has spent the last year trying to eat, pray, talk and even vote as Jesus would.

So who did he vote for?

Jesus’ troubling teachings influenced him to vote for Barack Obama — his first vote for a Democrat for president. Though disagreeing with Obama on abortion, he said, “I felt, as an individual, he was closer to the spirit of Jesus’ teachings than anyone else. (Obama) was a community organizer, so he was into the poor, the marginalized, the oppressed, which Jesus is very much into.”

Finally, in Dobsons word:

If you get serious about the Bible, it will really mess you up.

Very interesting article, very interesting path on behalf of Dobson and most interesting the vote. You had Bible Spice preaching up a storm, you had the “Maverick” also trying to stand by the Religious Right and here is the conclusion that Dobson came to, “Jesus was very much into the poor, the marginalized, and the oppressed.” Has he perhaps managed to point out the PHARISEES of our time?
